DIY Canvas Art | Sunset on the Beach

Hi Guys! 

I was thinking about what to create for you guys next and this idea just popped in my head. I hope you all like it! :) 

Materials:

Seashells
Rope
Pencil
Charcoal
4 Canvases (I used 8x10 canvases)
2 Spray Paint Colors
Glue Gun
Hot Glue
Computer Paper
Scissors
Cardboard
Paint Brush
Sponge Brush
Mod Podge
Glitter

Instructions:

1) First, you'll need to cut your computer paper to the size of your canvas. Once you have all the pieces, you'll need to draw out your letters.

2) Next, in a well ventilated area place your canvas on a cardboard and spray paint your first color. Here I'm using Coral. Repeat with your second color and here I'm using copper.

Tip: Don't forget to paint the sides and don't spray too close to the canvas :)

3)  After the paint has fully dried, transfer the letters to the canvas.

4) Prep the rope by adding glue to the tip and before it's dry, shape the rope. 

5) Glue down the rope. You may have to tighten the rope by twisting it before you lay it down onto the canvas.

6) Once you've finished, cut the rope, shape it like you did in step 4, then cut as close to the canvas as possible. Repeat for the remaining letters.

7) I suggest pre-arranging the shells and taking a photo before you actually glue the shells onto the canvas. Glue down the shells and also glue the open spaces between shells for a secure hold.

8) Once you're happy with the arrangement of the shells, take a paint brush and brush on some mod lodge onto the bottom of the canvas. I wanted a gradient effect, so I sprinkled the glitter lightly on the top and heavy on the bottom.

9) Allow the glitter and glue to completely dry then set the glitter by adding a layer of mod lodge with a sponge brush using a stippling motion.

TIP: Do not drag the brush. The glitter may fall off.

DIY Wall Art

Hi guys! This DIY wall art is so fun and easy to create! It does take patience but the end result is beautiful!

Materials:

Wood Plank (I used 11"x24" plank from Lowe's)
Wood Stain (Color used "walnut")
Picture Hangers (This can be found in your local department store)
Small Paint Brush
Regular Paint Brush
Scissor
Crochet Thread
Clear Garbage Bag (regular will work just fine!)
Nails (I believe mine are half inch nails)
Charcoal
White Paint
Painter's Tape
Hammer
Quote/Saying Printout
Sander

Instructions:

1) First, start by printing your banner and folding the edges of the quote and then tape it together

2) Prep your work area by cutting the garbage bag and placing over your entire workstation BEFORE staining the wood. *make sure everything is covered because the color will stain!*

3) Prep the wood by sanding in the direction of the grain, clean off the dust, and begin to stain! Apply a generous amount, and let the stain soak in for about 10 minutes, or whatever your direction says. Set to the side and allow it to dry for several hours.

4) Traced the words on the back of the banner with a generous amount of charcoal.

5) Next, place the banner on top of the wood, tape down with the painter's tape, then begin to trace with a pencil. When you're finished tracing the quote (on the paper), re-trace the quote on the wood with the pencil. When you're done, gently wipe off the charcoal residue from the wood. You will be left with a light pencil outline.

6) Cut the heart and tape it into place with the painter's tape. With the smallest paint brush you have, begin to paint the quote! This took me around 2 hours to complete.

7) When the paint is dry, you can start to do the heart string art! Hammer in the nails, beginning at the bottom of the heart working your way around. I eyeballed about .25 inch between each nail. You can definitely use a ruler and measure if you prefer.

8) Remove the paper heart and tie a double knot around the bottom needle with crochet thread. 

Tip: Do not use yarn! It will fray and frizz and won't look as nice and clean as the crochet thread.

9) Loop the thread around the heart then loop around random needles. There's no technique to this, but do keep pressing the thread down, toward the wood plank.

10) When you're satisfied with the results, I recommend looping around the perimeter once more to secure the heart/thread in place. Tie a double knot, then cut off the excess.

Add picture hanger strips to each corner and you're done!
