DIY Photo Frame | 2 Ways!

Hey Guys!

Today I’m going to show you how to create two kinds of photo frames using canvases! Say whaaaa?! Yes, canvases! 

This DIY is SO simple to create and I’m confident that anyone can do it.
 

How gorgeous is this?! 

Difficulty: EASY

Materials:

Eraser

Painter’s tape

Your choice of spray paint

Ruler

4 thumbtacks

Pencil

Canvas (I used 16" X 20")

A photo of your choice (I printed 11" X 14" from Adorama.com I highly recommend their metallic prints)

Instructions:

Frame Option 1:

1) With the ruler, I put it against the edges of the canvas and traced along the perimeter with a pencil

2) Add painters tape making sure some of the pencil shows so it can be covered by the spray paint.

      

3) Once you cover everything, spray paint the canvas. When the paint is dry, remove the painter's tape and you should have something that looks like this:

If you mess up, you can co over it with white paint - just be sure to paint along the inside so there

 isn’t a random white patch. 

4) Using the photo of your choice, find the center of the canvas and pin down the four corners with the thumbtacks.

5) Flip the canvas and add some tape to the back of the thumbtacks to protect the walls. I also added command strips here and here to avoid putting holes in the walls. Once you do that, you’re all done!

Frame Option 2:

For the second frame option, I wanted to match my boys room.

1) I took some left over wallpaper I had and put it on the canvas. I mades sure to have some room on the edges so I can hot glue the wallpaper to the canvas for a more secure hold.

2) I prepped my thumbtacks by painting it a nice gray color to match the theme.

3) Create a border for my photo and placed it on top, on the center of the wallpaper covered canvas.

       

4) Thumbtack the corners and add tape and command strips to the back of the canvas and you’re all done.

DIY Spiral Wood Bowl

Hey guys!

I saw this wood bowl on an episode of Blue Bloods as one of the background decorations and I instantly fell in love! This was my first time making it and it definitely took a lot of trial and error but I think the finished product looks amazing! I hope you like this project as much as I do!

Materials:

Wooden Dowels
Bottle
Rubber band
Candle lid
Wood glue
Coarse sand paper
Xacto knife
Utility knife
Paper
Pencil
Paint (optional)

Instructions:

1) First, you'll need some sort of bottle. Take a rubber band and wrap the bottle twice then start adding the wooden dowels. I used about 30. Make sure the dowels are close to each other leaving a small gap between the first and last dowel.

2) Next, gently twist the dowels so they spread apart evenly (you might have to manually adjust some). Place a candle lid under the bottle and push dowels down until they hit the surface. This will ensure all dowels are even.

3) Take wood glue and begin gluing the dowels together. I originally tried hot glue but that was an epic fail! I'd definitely recommend sticking with the wood glue. Let the glue dry overnight. 

4) The next day, the dowel was stuck to the lid. If this is the case, gently pry apart the dowels from the candle lid with scissors. The rubber band was also stuck to the dowels. Peel apart as much as possible, sand it down, then use an xacto knife to pick apart the rubber band in the creases. 

5) Remove the bottle and the dowels should hold their shape! 

6) On a scrap piece of paper, trace the diameter of the bottle. This will help us create the base of the bowl.

7) Take a single dowel and place it at the edge of the circle and mark it with a pencil. Take the utility knife and glide the dowel back and forth until it leaves a deep impression. Snap the dowel along the impression and sand down the sharp ends. Repeat until you create the base. 

8) Place the cut dowels on the paper to ensure they are the same size as the circle you drew. Glue with wood glue. Let it dry overnight. 

 

9) To glue the base in the bowl, I stuck a candle holder inside the vase, propped the base on top, then gently moved the entire bowl. Glue down and let dry overnight. You can leave the bowl the natural wood color or paint it like I have done.

DIY Canvas Art | Sunset on the Beach

Hi Guys! 

I was thinking about what to create for you guys next and this idea just popped in my head. I hope you all like it! :) 

Materials:

Seashells
Rope
Pencil
Charcoal
4 Canvases (I used 8x10 canvases)
2 Spray Paint Colors
Glue Gun
Hot Glue
Computer Paper
Scissors
Cardboard
Paint Brush
Sponge Brush
Mod Podge
Glitter

Instructions:

1) First, you'll need to cut your computer paper to the size of your canvas. Once you have all the pieces, you'll need to draw out your letters.

2) Next, in a well ventilated area place your canvas on a cardboard and spray paint your first color. Here I'm using Coral. Repeat with your second color and here I'm using copper.

Tip: Don't forget to paint the sides and don't spray too close to the canvas :)

3)  After the paint has fully dried, transfer the letters to the canvas.

4) Prep the rope by adding glue to the tip and before it's dry, shape the rope. 

5) Glue down the rope. You may have to tighten the rope by twisting it before you lay it down onto the canvas.

6) Once you've finished, cut the rope, shape it like you did in step 4, then cut as close to the canvas as possible. Repeat for the remaining letters.

7) I suggest pre-arranging the shells and taking a photo before you actually glue the shells onto the canvas. Glue down the shells and also glue the open spaces between shells for a secure hold.

8) Once you're happy with the arrangement of the shells, take a paint brush and brush on some mod lodge onto the bottom of the canvas. I wanted a gradient effect, so I sprinkled the glitter lightly on the top and heavy on the bottom.

9) Allow the glitter and glue to completely dry then set the glitter by adding a layer of mod lodge with a sponge brush using a stippling motion.

TIP: Do not drag the brush. The glitter may fall off.

Allow the glue to dry and enjoy your work! :)
